What is Sawando National Park Gate? Why is it here?
◇Background of Facility Establishment.

The Sawando National Park Gate was built here in the Sawando area in 2012 for the following reasons. Since then, we have provided various information about Kamikochi or nearby attractions to many visitors. During the opening period, our staff will be on-site to answer any questions you may have.
Kamikochi is a scenic spot in Chubu-Sangaku National Park, which boasts some of the best mountain scenery in Japan. Therefore, many tourists visited the area by their private cars. With the spread of private cars, the capacity of the parking lots in Kamikochi became insufficient.

As a result, many cars that could not fit in the parking lots began to park disorderly on the roads and vegetation, which, along with the pollution of exhaust gases, hurt the surrounding environment.

In addition, the illegal parking of vehicles had a serious impact on bus operations, with travel times taking many times longer than usual, and the impact on people other than car users was also serious.

To address these situations, the parking lot needed to be significantly expanded, but expansion was difficult due to the tremendous impact on the natural environment.

Therefore, private cars are restricted. All visitors to Kamikochi are requested to use public transportation such as buses and taxis.

Due to the above circumstances, there is a need for a facility where visitors to Kamikochi can park their own cars and smoothly transfer to buses and taxis. Therefore, in 2012, the Sawando Bus Terminal was constructed along with the maintenance of the parking lot in the Sawando area. At the same time, as part of these developments, before visiting Kamikochi, in order to introduce the importance of maintaining the natural environment, how to enjoy the natural environment, weather information, etc., we set up the “Sawando National Park Gate” next to the bus terminal. has been installed.
